Baby Girl - Week 40

Baby Blog

How Far Along:  40 weeks – DUE DATE – let’s get this show on the road!

Maternity Clothes: Always.

Best Moment This Week: My mom came to town on Friday. It’s weird to think that she’s here for the purpose of Baby Girl’s birth. I’m so excited to have her here for the birth – now if only Baby Girl would come out!

Also, the looks on people’s faces when I told them I was due “tomorrow” made me laugh!

Gender: Girl!

Movement: Still moving around in there. Her movements are more like rolls or twists because she’s just about out of room, but I still feel her. Plus, she often gets the hiccups still.

Size and Development: Baby Girl is the size of a Jackfruit (who comes up with these foods)? Her hair and nails keep growing, and her lungs keep developing. (Read: She’s done baking, so let’s get this kid out of me)!!!

Food Cravings: Soda and ice cream – you know, really healthy foods. HA.

What I Miss: I know I’ve said it for a few weeks, but I mainly miss just feeling like myself. I’m ready to have this kid out of me so I can move and function like normal.

Sleep: Sleep is ok. I’m always tossing and turning, but still sleeping soundly when I am asleep. Every few nights, I’ll wake up for about an hour, and it’ll take me awhile to get back to sleep. This is usually due to heartburn or having trouble breathing because my lungs are being squished.

What I am looking forward to: Meeting Baby Girl and finally revealing her name! I can’t wait to introduce her to everyone and share the name we’ve been keeping a secret for so long!

Symptoms: Lots of Braxton Hicks contractions, heartburn (mainly due to the spicy foods I’ve been eating to try to get labor going), being emotional, and fatigue.

You Know Your Pregnant When: Your husband helps you put on and tie your shoes because it’s too hard to lean over to do it yourself.
People’s mouth’s drop when you tell them you’re “due tomorrow,” because they can’t believe your walking, talking, and functioning as a normal human being.

Baby Girl - Week 39

 Baby Blog
(Is it me or is that bump getting a little lower? Maybe?)

How Far Along:  39 weeks – FULL TERM - anytime now!!! Now the real-hardcore-can’t take it anymore-I want to meet my baby-waiting begins. Sunday was the first time that I thought, “Yup, I’m done being pregnant.” I feel pretty good about the fact that I made it to just shy of 39 weeks before feeling that way, but it’s here and I’m ready to meet my kid! Today was my last actual shift at work. I’m still doing some work from home, but I’m officially on maternity leave as of right now! YAY!

Maternity Clothes: Yes.

Best Moment This Week: Putting the finishing touches on the nursery. We have some of our stuff still in the room that we need to move out, but other than that, it’s done! All of her stuff is set up – painted, put together, and organized. I’m sure things will change a bit or get re-arranged. But if she comes today, I’d be satisfied that her room is ready for her.

Gender: GIRL! – I sometimes have this fear, though, that the tech got it wrong, and they’re going to tell me I gave birth to a boy. I would love to have a boy one day, but we’re all ready and planning on a girl – so our ultrasound tech better have gotten it right!

Movement: Still lots of a movement. She was pretty still for a couple of days last week to the point that I almost called my doctor. But about 5 minutes before I called, she started moving a ton, so I felt much better.

Size and Development: She’s the size of a watermelon – I’d say that means she’s ready to come out! She should be about 19-21 inches long, and probably close (if not over) 8 pounds. Although her brain is still developing (and will continue to develop for a LONG time), she’s ready to live in the world outside of the womb. So, let’s get this show on the road!!!

Food Cravings: Soda. I just would love to have a soda with every meal (I don’t), but I just love the sweetness. Let’s be honest, though, I’m probably craving sweets because I keep eating sweets. If I ate veggies, I’d probably start to crave veggies.

What I Miss: Good, non-restless sleep. I know that this isn’t really go to change much in the near future. But I’m at least hoping that once I have the baby, when I’m sleeping, I will actually be sleeping instead of tossing and turning for the majority of the night.

Sleep: Sleep is ok, but not as good as it was. It really depends on the night. Some nights I get good sleep, and others I don’t. I usually toss and turn every night to get comfortable, but some nights I lay awake for about an hour or so in the middle of the night and then eventually go back to sleep. Last night, however, I woke up at 5am and couldn’t go back to sleep. After fighting it for almost an hour, I finally got up at about 5:40 because I was so hungry. My hips are starting to ache again when I sleep, so that’s part of the problem.

What I am looking forward to: Meeting this Little Girl of ours. I’m just so stinking excited to see what she looks like, get to know her personality, and just hold her in my arms!

Symptoms: Tiredness, achiness, a giant protruding belly, hips hurting at night, restless sleep, minor swelling, and people looking at me with surprised looks on their faces saying, “You haven’t had that baby yet?!” Ha. It actually doesn’t really bother me that they say it; the looks on their faces are just funny. About a week ago (around 38 weeks), I had someone ask, “You sure you’re not having twins.” I responded politely with an, “I’m sure.” But in my head I thought, “Yes, I’m sure, but thanks for pointing out that, at 38 weeks, I not only look like I’m ready to pop but that it looks like there should be more than one child stuffed in my belly. I appreciate it.”

You Know You’re Pregnant When: Your feet swell up like a balloon from standing for just a few short hours. People ask, “You haven’t had that baby yet?!” on a regular basis. You feel like a grandma when you just want to go to bed at 8pm – on a Friday.

Baby Girl - Week 38

Baby Blog

How Far Along:  38 weeks – we are down to a matter of DAYS here, people! Yes, it could still be a couple of weeks, but it could just be days. So crazy that we are at this point. At the doctor’s appointment this week, Chris looked at me and said, “Week 38, WOW.” It was a surreal moment to think we are almost at the end of this pregnancy journey.

Maternity Clothes: Yes.

Best Moment This Week: Finishing painting the furniture for the baby’s room. We also borrowed a bassinet from a friend, so it was exciting to bring it home and get it ready for Baby Girl.

Gender: Girl.

Movement: Still lots of movement, and now I’m starting to feel pressure/pain in my pelvis. Although the pain is not awesome, it’s good to know she’s moving in the right direction. :D

Size and Development: She’s the size of a pumpkin this week – mmm-pumpkin pie. She’s about 19.5-20 inches long and probably weighs around 6.5-7 pounds. This week, she’s full term, and her organs are developed, although her lungs may still be developing. She could have an inch of hair on her head. I hope she has hair when she’s born, and I wonder what color it is and if it’ll change.

Food Cravings: Nothing really in particular. Still love junk food/dessert, so I’m trying to eat those veggies that never seem to sound good.

What I Miss: I’m starting to miss my old self/body. I know that I’m gaining weight for a very important reason; however, I’m excited to get my old body back. I’ve lost the weight before, so I know I can do it again, and I’m excited to have my baby and my body. :D

Sleep: It’s still going good and that’s such a blessing. I think that because I’m still working and doing a lot, I’m just so exhausted that I conk out as soon as I hit the pillow. I’ve had a little mild sleep insomnia, but I can eventually get back to sleep and it doesn’t happen every night.

What I am looking forward to: Finishing the nursery. We’ve finished painting the furniture, and now we can put the room together. So ready and excited to have it done!

Symptoms: A little swelling in my feet and legs, some back pain, and fatigue. I’ve also had some trouble breathing, especially while sleeping. I think she’s starting to get lower, though, so the breathing has improved over the last coupld of days. Overall, I feel like I’m doing well, and I just keep moving. However, a nap does sound nice. One other symptom that I’ve had for most of the pregnancy that I forgot to mention before is that I’ve started to lose my filter on my mouth. HA. Maybe I think I can get away with more because I’m pregnant, but I often just say what I’m thinking before I think it through. It’s kind of freeing to speak my mind, but I have to be careful not to get myself in trouble.

You Know You’re Pregnant When: You have to go pee two times in 30 minutes, and you have a foot/hand/butt stuck in your rib cage for the better part of the day.

Baby Girl - Week 37

Baby Blog

How Far Along:  37 weeks – I’m considered early term now (full term is 39 weeks). Baby girl could come at any time, and if she did, she would be strong and developed enough to not have any complications.

Maternity Clothes: Yup. I was packing my hospital bag, and didn’t pack any maternity clothes. I did pack loose clothing and comfy sweats, but it’s weird to think that pretty soon, I won’t be strictly wearing maternity clothes.

Best Moment This Week: Spending time with some close friends this past weekend. Life is about to change - a lot, and so going out with friends (without needing a baby sitter) won’t happen for much longer. With the busyness of life, I’m trying to soak in as much of life as it is now before Baby Girl gets here. I think this means Chris and I should go on one last date night before she comes, too. :D

Gender: Girl.

Movement: Often. She’s been getting the hiccups a lot lately. It’s funny, but feels a bit weird since it’s a consistent pulse.

Size and Development: She’s about the size of a wintermelon (whatever that is), and weighs probably 6-7 pounds and is around 19 inches long. Now that everything is developed, she just continues to gain weight and is practicing skills for the outside world like sucking, gripping, inhaling, and exhaling.

Food Cravings: The usual hot chocolate and sweets. Still love me my condiments.

What I Miss: Being able to lift and move things as well as squat and move like I used to. It’s nice to have people offer to help, but sometimes, I just wish I could get stuff done myself and move around like a non-pregnant woman.

Sleep: Sleep is still going well. My hips often hurt in when I sleep, but I can usually turn over and it will ease the pressure. I wake up often to pee, but when I’m asleep, I’m out.

What I am looking forward to: This is my last week of work at Sylvan and my last full week at the CafĂ©. Things have been crazy with work, events at church, getting ready for Baby Girl and Chris working to get ready for Christmas at church. I’m so excited for things to slow down a little before Baby Girl arrives, and working one less job will help with that!

Symptoms: My foot is still causing me problems, but it’s not hurting quite as bad or often, which is a huge blessing! I also still get heartburn occasionally, mostly after eating greasy foods. And I’m waddling – a lot! :D

You Know You’re Pregnant When: You make a crockpot of soup for dinner, and realize the next day (after eating leftovers) that you forgot to put ANY seasonings in the soup. I thought it tasted a bit bland, but just didn’t realize I didn’t put anything in it. I thought it was even more ridiculous that I didn’t realize it until after I ate leftovers. You also know you’re pregnant when you go through toilet paper like water. I swear we have to buy a 12 pack of TP every 1-2 weeks. Chris reminds to me to “spare a square,” but I just pee a lot!

Baby Girl - Week 36

Baby Blog

How Far Along:  36 weeks – 4 weeks! 1 month! 30 days! We are literally in the last weeks of the pregnancy – crazy!

Maternity Clothes: I actually have an update on this one! I forgot to write about it last week, but I finally broke down and bought a nursing bra. I was starting to fall out of my normal bra, so I thought it was time to get a bigger one. Since I was buying a new bra, I thought it would be smart to go ahead and get a nursing bra while I was at it.

Best Moment This Week: Yesterday, Chris and I were talking about her name. We were discussing how we want to spell it and what her middle name should be. It was fun to call her by name and pick the perfect spelling for our girl’s name.

Also, today at my OB appointment, my nurse checked my cervix and she said that things are progressing. This made me feel so good that body is doing what it’s supposed to do. It also made me super excited to know that we are getting so close!

Gender: Girl!

Movement: There’s still lots of movement, but it’s sometimes a little uncomfortable.

Size and Development: She’s still about 18 inches long and around 6 pounds – about the size of a honeydew melon. All of her systems and organs should be in full working condition, but her lungs still have a bit of maturing to do.

Food Cravings: Still hot chocolate and sweets – basically any junk food. I’m really trying to get my fruit and vegetable intake, but it’s hard when they don’t sound good.

What I Miss: This is kind of petty, but I miss eggs cooked over well and cold deli meat. All eggs need to be fully cooked and deli meat needs to be heated up to kill any bacteria. It’s not all bad, but eggs benedict or a cold turkey sandwich sound pretty good.

Sleep: Sleeping is still really good. It takes a minute to get comfortable, but I’m happy that I’m still getting really good sleep.

What I am looking forward to: That moment when I realize I’m going into labor. Maybe my water will break; maybe I’ll just start having contractions – who knows? But I’m excited for that moment – to know I’m getting ready to meet my baby girl.

Symptoms: I still have a really bad pain in my left foot. It’s in the ball of my foot and sends a shooting pain to my 3rd and 4th toes. I thought it might be plantar fasciitis, but I have no heel pain, so I’m really not sure what’s going on. I think it’s due to the extra weight I’m carrying, and I hope it goes away after her delivery.

You Know You’re Pregnant When: You stick a bag of lettuce in the freezer while putting away groceries. When I realized it, I tried to defrost it, but that didn’t go over well. Early on in my pregnancy, I knew I was pregnant when I poured water in my cereal. I definitely got a kick out of that one.

Baby Girl - Week 35

Baby Blog

Starting this week, I’m adding one more question/answer at the end: “You Know You’re Pregnant When…” These are things I’ve done this week or throughout my pregnancy that just prove (on top of my protruding bump) that I’m definitely pregnant.

How Far Along: 35 weeks

Maternity Clothes: Really?!

Best Moment This Week: My SD baby shower! My good friends Lacy, Brie, Micah, and Briana threw me a shower here in San Diego. I had some friends and family come in from out of town, too, to celebrate with us. It was a lot of fun, and I feel so blessed to have great friends who treat us like family here in SD.

Gender: Girl!

Movement: Yes. There’s less flipping and flutters and more major pokes and jabs. I think she’s just losing room in there and doesn’t have the space to flip flop around.

Size and Development: Baby girl is now the size of a coconut (which actually seems smaller than a butternut squash from last week, but we’ll say it’s a large coconut). She’s about 18 inches long and about 5 and a half pounds. Her hearing is fully developed and her circulatory and musculoskeletal systems are also developed. She’s pretty much done with development, so now she’s just gaining more weight and her lungs are maturing a bit more.

Food Cravings: Sweets and hot chocolate. In fact, my friend Micah, who helped throw my baby shower, made hot chocolate to serve at the shower. It was so thoughtful of her to provide the drink I’d been craving!

What I Miss: Currently – Eggnog. I really wanted some eggnog, so I poured myself a glass and then realized there is egg yolk in eggnog. Some eggnogs use pasteurized eggs, which would be safe to drink, but the brand I have does not. Sad face, commence.

Sleep: Sleep is pretty good. Still lots of tossing and turning

What I am looking forward to: Working on her room. Chris and I bought the paint needed to paint the dressers, and we have all the plans needed to finish the room. Now it’s just a matter of finding time to get it all done. Chris is converting one of our dressers into a changing table, and he’s building a Murphy bed so we can still use the room as a guest room when needed. Then we just need to paint the furniture and build the crib, and we’re good to go! (Pictures to come!)

Symptoms: Tiredness, sore back, and a new one: a shooting pain in my left foot. It’s as if there is a nerve in the ball of my foot that when I walk on it, it shoots a pain through my 3rd and 4th toes. At first it only happened occasionally – now it’s all the time. BOO! Can’t say for sure it’s a direct symptom, but since it started during the pregnancy, I’m claiming it as a symptom.

You Know You’re Pregnant When: You get a letter returned to you because you tried to mail it without an address written on it (but I did remember the stamp)! You know you’re pregnant when you plan all day on going to a meeting at 7:30pm, then at 8:40pm you realize you forgot to go to said meeting.

Hope you enjoyed my new segment, and I’m sure there will be plenty more to come!

Baby Girl - Week 34

 Baby Blog

How Far Along: 34 weeks

Maternity Clothes: Yup.

Best Moment This Week: Hitting 34 weeks seems big because we only have 6 weeks left to go. But probably the best moment is going through her little clothes from her shower. I started taking the tags off her clothes and prepare to wash them so we can get them put away. Do her laundry makes her coming even more real. I just can’t wait to meet her!

Gender: Girl!

Movement: Lots of movement. I often have a foot or butt in my ribcage, but I love feeling her move!

Size and Development: Baby girl is about 4.5-5 pounds and is around 18 inches long - about the size of a butternut squash! Her lungs are still developing, and she can recognize and react to simple songs, so I guess I should start singing her lullabies!

Food Cravings: Hot chocolate. I’ve been getting a little tired of having to drink mainly decaf, so hot chocolate has sounded really good lately. I also have really gotten into hot chocolate made with chocolate almond milk.

What I Miss: I miss flipping over in bed with ease. :D I sleep well, but toss and turn often, so flipping over has become quite the task.

Sleep: My sleep is really good – until last night when I got really sick. I think it’s a virus of some sort – so much for getting the flu shot. HA.

What I am looking forward to: My San Diego baby shower is this Saturday. I have a couple of friends coming from out of town for it, and I’m so excited to celebrate our baby girl with our SD friends.

Symptoms: Some heartburn and feeling a bit uncomfortable. She’s getting heavy, and rolling over in bed is becoming quite the task. Also, I may have had a couple of Braxton Hicks contractions. Since I’ve never had contractions before, I’m not sure that’s what it was, but it’s definitely possible.

Baby Girl - Week 33

Baby Blog

How Far Along:  33 weeks

Maternity Clothes: Yup.

Best Moment This Week: My Sacramento baby shower! My best friend, sister-in-law, mom, and mother-in-law (thank you all) threw a baby shower for me with my friends and family in Sacramento. We had lots of fun and got lots of clothes and goodies from our registry. Thank you to everyone who came and/or sent a gift. We are truly grateful!

Gender: GIRL!

Movement: Lots. My mother-in-law saw my belly move when baby girl did a flip-flop in church. Ha.

Size and Development: Baby girl is about 4.5 pounds and around 17.5 inches long. Her bones are hardening, she can keep her eyes open while awake (which is kind of weird – ha), and her breathing is starting to coordinate her breathing with sucking and swallowing.

Food Cravings: Cheez-its and ice cream always sound good, but nothing that I feel like I HAVE to have.

What I Miss: Walking up our stairs without getting out of breath. That would be nice.

Sleep: Sleep is good. I toss and turn a bunch and have to go to the bathroom about 3 times a night, but when I’m asleep, I sleep well.

What I am looking forward to: I’m looking forward to getting her clothes and baby things washed and put away in their place. I’m also looking forward to my San Diego shower in a couple of weeks.

Symptoms: A little bit of heartburn and some breathlessness and fatigue. Overall, things are good and my symptoms aren’t too bad. I also do this thing when I’m really tired that if something is funny, I start laughing and then crying. I start crying so much that I’m not sure if I’m actually laughing with tears or crying for real. Stinking hormones. I’m not sure if this is an actual symptom, but my family thinks it’s funny. HA.

Baby Girl: Week 32

Baby Blog

How Far Along:  32 weeks – Holy buckets! Only 8 more weeks to go! So crazy to think that I’m 8 months pregnant, and she’s going to be here in 2 months!

Maternity Clothes: Why am I still asking this question? HA!

Best Moment This Week: When Chris left for work, he kissed me and said I love you, then touch my belly and said, “I love you, too.” I just love when he talks to her!

Gender: GIRL!

Movement: Lots of movement. I feel her many times throughout the day, and I love it!

Size and Development: She’s the size of a squash, which seems appropriate for this fall season. She’s 3.5-4 pounds and around 16 inches long. She’s gaining more fat under her skin, and she’s head down in preparation for birth.

Food Cravings: Ice cream – whenever we have dessert, ice cream always sounds good. :D I’m having an aversion to certain vegetables, so I’ve been pretty limited to salad, peas, and corn. So, craving sweets and hating most veggies – awesome! Trying to not go too crazy with the sweets, though!

What I Miss: Wearing my wedding rings. I’ve had some swelling in my fingers, so I’ve started wearing a fake ring because my wedding rings are a bit too small.

Sleep: Sleep has been really good, however, whenever I roll over, I feel like a beached whale trying to flip over. That is really the only time I’m uncomfortable – when I have to roll over.

What I am looking forward to: Our baby shower this weekend! We head up to Sacramento this week for the shower that my best friend, sister-in-law, and our moms are throwing. I’m so excited and can’t wait to see everyone!

Symptoms: Heartburn, growing belly, fatigue, and some swelling in my feet and fingers.

Baby Girl - Week 31

Baby Blog

How Far Along:  31 weeks – 9 weeks left - we are in single digits, people!

Maternity Clothes: Yup.

Best Moment This Week: We got out crib, we finally picked out the stroller/car seat that we want, and we got our first baby gift from our registry in the mail (thanks, Liz)!!! Things are just getting more real - and it's awesome! It's crazy to think that we are in single digits of weeks left until she gets here!

Gender: Baby Girl!

Movement: This girl moves a lot! She has times when she doesn't move, but I pretty much feel her all day. It's so funny to see my belly move and jump randomly. In fact, last night was the first time she kicked me right in the bladder. Holy moly, I thought I was going to pee my pants!

Size and Development: She's about 16 inches and 3.5 pounds. Her irises can now react to light and all her senses are now working. Not sure what or how she's smelling, but its cool that she can.

Food Cravings: Still sweets. Although lately, I've been wanting more home cooked type foods. I think with the weather cooling off, I want my fall comfort food - hence mashed potatoes and meatloaf for dinner.

What I Miss: Being able to bend over or squat down easily - it's the little things we take for granted. Actually, the squatting down isn't the hard part, it's the standing back up that is more of the challenge.

Sleep: It's still good. I've been blessed with still getting good sleep most nights. It helps that I usually go to bed exhausted. Ha.

What I am looking forward to: Setting up her room. I can't wait to get everything painted, set up, and put away and make the guest room her room.

Symptoms: Mainly just fatigue. The heartburn hasn't been too bad this week - thank goodness. For the most part, I just get tired and worn out easier. Overall, I can't complain too much.

Baby Girl - Week 30

Baby Blog

How Far Along:  30 weeks – 10 weeks to go!!!

Maternity Clothes: Of course.

Best Moment This Week: We ordered our crib this week – it just made it a bit more real. Each new thing we do makes it all more real. Once we get the crib and set it up – it will be that much more real!

Gender: Baby Girl!

Movement: She’s moving a lot. I see my belly squirm a lot. I will often lay my arm on my belly as I read a book or look on my phone, and my arm will randomly jump – which makes it a bit hard to read sometimes. :D

Size and Development: Little Girl is the size of a cabbage or cucumber at 15.2-16.7 inches long and 3.5-4 pounds. Her skin is getting smoother, her brain continues to form even more, and she can even grasp things with her tiny fingers.

Food Cravings: Mainly sweets and ice cream. Why couldn’t I crave fruits, vegetables, whole grains, and quinoa? HA. I’m trying to be good, but I usually need something sweet after my meal.

What I Miss: Sleeping on my stomach – I’m a stomach sleeper, so it’s a bit of a bummer that I can’t sleep on my stomach. It’s a small price to pay, but I do miss it.

Sleep: Sleep is going pretty good. I have to pee 2-3 times a night and I toss and turn often, but for the most part, I’m sleeping well.

What I am looking forward to: Meeting our girl. I can’t wait to meet her and see what she looks like – will she look like me or Chris or a combo of both? What will her personality be like? I just can’t wait to get to know our daughter!

Symptoms: I’ve started getting a little heartburn. It’s been pretty mild, and doesn’t happen often. It typically is only after I eat really greasy foods – so trying to limit that so that I limit the heartburn.

Baby Girl - Week 29

Baby Blog

How Far Along:  29 weeks

Maternity Clothes: Yup – at this point, this is kind of a stupid question to answer.

Best Moment This Week: Seeing baby girl on an ultrasound! We had a 28 week ultrasound to check and make sure she was growing well and that all was good – and it is! The doctor said the ultrasound is normal and she is growing well. We loved seeing her again. We even got to see her swallow and then lick her lips. It was awesome! I never thought I would say that a baby swallowing was so cool – but it is amazing what she is able to do already!
We’re also 99% sure we’ve chosen a name. We’re not sharing the name until she’s born, but it definitely feels good to know that we have a name picked out. The 1% is that it’s not official until it’s on a legal document, and we’re giving ourselves permission to change our minds if we want. As of now, though, we have her name.

Gender: GIRL!

Movement: Very regularly. I love getting to feel her off and on throughout the day. It feels like it’s her way of saying, “Hey, Mom, I’m still here.” Love it!

Size and Development: This week, she’s the size of an acorn or butternut squash. She’s about 15.2 to 16.7 inches long, and because of our ultrasound, we know that she’s over 3 pounds already! Side note: this kind of freaks me out because according to one of my pregnancy apps, she should triple in weight before she’s born. Eek! I guess I shouldn’t be too surprised since I was over 9 pounds when I was born. Welp – there’s no turning back now. :D

Food Cravings: I still love ice cream, and with fall beginning, I’ve wanted all things pumpkin. I’ve also wanted to bake, but I’m not sure if that is fall kicking off or an actual craving. Regardless, I made pumpkin cookies tonight, which satisfied multiple cravings.

What I Miss: Being able to go at my normal speed. I miss being able to do more, carry more, walk faster, last longer on my feet, etc. With that said, I’m the type of person that could lay around all day and watch movies if I’d let myself. So having a legitimate reason to slow down is not the end of the world, it just makes things difficult on those days I can’t take a break.

Sleep: Ok. The sleep itself is good, but I have to change positions often. Also, my hips are hurting when I sleep, even though I have a pillow between my legs. I’m going to try a thicker pillow to try to keep my knees separated more.

What I am looking forward to: My showers! My best friend and sister-in-law are throwing me a shower in Sacramento, and I got my invitation in the mail the other day. I also have some great friends throwing me a shower here in San Diego. I feel so blessed by these people to throw these showers for me, and I’m so looking forward to them. Also, it’s a huge relief to have the registry done! It was really stressing me out, but now (with the exception of a few things) it is complete!

Symptoms: Aching hips, fatigue, and sore feet at the end of the day, oh, and my growing belly that moves quite often. :D

Baby Girl - Week 28

Baby Blog

How Far Along:  28 weeks

Maternity Clothes: Yes.

Best Moment This Week: Registering for baby stuff. It was pretty stressful at times, but Chris and I actually had a great time choosing stuff for our little girl.

Gender: Girl.

Movement: Lots of movement. My belly has moved a lot, and it’s so weird to see my belly move as she moves.

Size and Development: She’s the size of an eggplant – about 14.8in and 2lbs. Her eyes are opening and closing and can sense light. Her lungs are developed enough that she could probably breathe on her own if she was born now – let’s hope she keeps cooking for awhile though.

Food Cravings: Ice cream. It’s still warm here, so I’m often hot – ice cream sounds good all the time.

What I Miss: My old clothes. I like that my belly is growing because it means she’s growing, but I do miss my old clothes that fit. However, I have gotten some very cute maternity clothes.

Sleep: My sleeping is pretty good. I had my first restless night of sleep, but overall, sleep is good.

What I am looking forward to: Our ultrasound tomorrow. We get to see our baby girl again. I’m excited to see how much she’s grown since the last time we saw her.

Symptoms: Growing belly, sore feet, and tiredness.

Baby Girl - Week 27

Baby Blog

How Far Along:  27 weeks

Maternity Clothes: All the time.

Best Moment This Week: Getting to talk to other mom’s about birthing/baby stuff. Life’s been busy, so I haven’t had a lot of chances to get advice from my friend’s that are moms. A few of us were hanging out, and they are giving me advice on birthing classes and techniques and what to register for (and not register for), etc. It was helpful and so good to just chat with other women about kids.

Gender: Girl.

Movement: She’s moving a lot and often. Excited for more obvious kicks to start happening.

Size and Development: This week, our little girl is the size of a rutabaga – and since I don’t recall having ever seen a rutabaga, I have no idea what this means. Apparently, she’s about 13.6-14.8 inches long and 1.5-2.2 pounds. Her brainstem is almost fully developed and her cerebral cortex is growing more and more as well.

Food Cravings: Ice cream. It’s been hot, so ice cream has been my dessert of choice.

What I Miss: Doing some things on my own. I don’t typically mind help, but I also hate to put people out, so when it’s been humbling asking for help or accepting when people offer to help me do things.

Sleep: Still pretty good. I change positions often, but I’m usually ok as long as I have a pillow between my legs.

What I am looking forward to: We have another ultrasound next week (September 18th). I’m excited to get to see her pretty face again!

Symptoms: Fatigue – I’m getting tired more easily especially if I’ve been walking or standing a lot. And my feet have been getting really hot and take a long time to cool down. Ice packs have been delightful for this symptom.

About a month ago, my mom, sister, and sister-in-law gave me some adorable baby outfits. My mom also made Baby Girl a couple of hats. I mentioned it in a previous blog, but I forgot to post pictures. So here are the two hats that my mom made for her granddaughter, as well as the adorable dress that my mother-in-law gave us when we were visiting Sacramento a couple of weeks ago.
